1週間のオーストラリア・シドニー旅行―①―

（1）出発まで

　6月頃だったと思うのですが、シドニーに住んでいるエマからemailが届きました。ダニエルと結婚をしたという知らせでした。6年余りの恋を実らせたものでした。それで今年のクリスマス頃にシドニーに来ないかという誘いでした。何とも気が早いことだと思いましたが、きっと航空券の手配などのことを考えてのことだと思いました。夏のクリスマスってどんなのだろうと思い、とりあえず行けると思うと返事をしておきました。

　7月頃に、エマの父親も来られそうだというemailが来ました。母親は忙しくて来られないということでした。

　ところが、7月23日に、次のemailが届きました。

　Good news, both my parents are coming to spend Xmas with me this December, so it'd be a big get-together this Xmas. My mother is very excited to see you again!
　So when are you coming in December?

　私は、妻に一緒に行かないかと言いましたが、やらなければならないことがあるので行かないと答えました。一緒に行けばいいのにと思いましたが仕方がありません。

　I'm very excited to see you again during xmas. Do not worry as this trip will not cost you too much money at all because your accommodation and some food will be provided. My parents will be here for 4 weeks before going back to work. All you need money for is interstate travelling (for instance, if you want to go to Melbourne for a few days) but I can always find you a good deal if you wish to go interstate (I have a few discount vouchers from previous travels). Anywhere within driving distance we can do over the weekend.

　9月には、新しく家を買うから是非来るようにとmailが来ました。宿泊するところは心配ないということでした。「えっ。家を買うの？どんな家？」と思い、興味が増しました。

　The house is in a nice middle-class suburb surrounded by a river and lots of trees. There are a lot of wild life in my suburb because of the trees. It is 35-40 minutes away from the centre of the city and the nearest train station is about 12-14 mins walk away. The neighbours are all middle class educated people. When you get here, you'll be able to experience the native wildlife that you see on TV, as they come to my backyard everyday. I get a mother possum carrying her baby on her back. She comes to my yard every night to feed. You can feed them too. There is also a Cockatoo (a native parrot), whom I have named "George", that comes to my yard every morning at 7am. They're very friendly. There is no need to go to a wildlife zoo when you can experience the same thing at my house;-).
　

　どうやら素敵な自然環境のところの家を買ったことがわかりました。ますます期待に胸が膨らみました。

　11月になると、両親が来ることが確定したと言ってきました。私も航空券の手配をしなければと思いました。

　初めにHISに行きましたが、格安と感じる券はありませんでした。しばらくして今度は中日ビルのJTBに行きました。13万円ぐらいの券はありまいたが、日程的に合いませんでした。

　JTBでは、すぐそこに格安の航空券を扱うOSUがあると教えてくれました。同じ中日ビルにあるOSUに行くと、コーリアンエアとキャセイパシフィックの券がどちらも11万円ぐらいでありました。私はキャセイがいいと思ったのですが、残念なことに香港での待ち時間が5時間以上もありました。結局、その場では決めずに家に帰り、インターネットでも調べてみました。

　インターネットでは、成田発はありましたが、中部空港からのはありませんでした。それと値段も5000円ほど安いだけでしたから、OSUで買うことにしました。全て込みで11万円ほどでした。とりあえず予約をしておきました。

　年末なので、こちらの希望通りの日時の航空券を買うのはなかなか難しいことでした。それでキャンセル待ちにしておいたら、すぐ次の日に希望の日が買えることになりました。毎日動いていることを実感しました。

　最終的に、22日出発、28日帰国でコーリアンエアーの仁川空港乗り換えにしました。
